About the Opportunity

The Māori Women’s Welfare League (Te Rōpū Wāhine Māori Toko i te Ora) has supported wāhine Māori and their whānau throughout Aotearoa for more than seven decades. Since its founding in 1951, it has grown into one of New Zealand’s most respected Māori organisations, with members and branches active across the motu. Grounded in the kaupapa of “Tātau Tātau”, the League continues to advance the wellbeing, leadership and aspirations of wāhine Māori and whānau through advocacy, community-led initiatives and practical support.

What You’ll Do

Based in the national office in Wellington, you will play a key role in helping day-to-day operations run efficiently. Your work will involve organising meetings and travel, supporting communications and office processes, and contributing to a warm, orderly environment for members, staff and visitors.

This role suits someone who is dependable, calm under pressure and able to bring care and structure to a busy kaupapa-driven setting where the work has real impact.

What We’re Looking For

You are likely to have prior experience in administration or office support and enjoy keeping systems, people and tasks moving in the right direction. A strong kaupapa focus, a naturally manaakitanga-led approach, and the ability to adapt when priorities change are all important for success in this position.

You should be comfortable balancing multiple demands, communicating with a variety of people, and working both independently and collaboratively. Confidence with Microsoft 365, strong organisation, a positive mindset, and the ability to follow through will be valuable. Experience in te ao Māori or within a kaupapa Māori environment will be highly regarded. The role is especially well suited to someone who can bring order, consistency and practical support to balance a highly creative leadership style.

  • Join a friendly team with deep community connections
