Overnight Grocery Associate FT

Job Summary

This overnight grocery role supports the department manager in achieving the store’s sales and profit targets. The position focuses on restocking merchandise throughout the store during overnight hours while helping maintain a dependable, customer-friendly shopping environment. The associate is expected to contribute to fresh presentation, prompt service, and a workplace that respects diverse backgrounds and encourages inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

• Help customers feel welcomed, valued, and supported so the store builds stronger loyalty and trust.
• Keep the department set and displayed according to plan, with shelves stocked, products rotated, inventory levels maintained, shelf tags/signage in place, and coolers/freezers properly conditioned.
• Assist shoppers by locating items or recommending suitable products when needed.
• Work with teammates to build trust, respect, and cooperation across the department.
• Share company, department, and role-related information clearly and follow all local, state, federal, and company rules.
• Track inventory and stocking conditions, report discrepancies, and check products for quality and freshness.
• Maintain correct product temperatures and keep required temperature logs according to policy.
• Support food safety, sanitation, productivity, and overall compliance standards.
• Follow regulatory requirements related to food safety, USDA rules, country-of-origin labeling, and Department of Agriculture guidelines.
• Carry out product recalls and withdrawals quickly, ensuring affected items are secured and removed from customer access.
• Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and report hazards to store management.
• Report customer or employee accidents, as well as any safety risks, illegal activity, theft, fraud, or robbery concerns.
• Observe wage-and-hour policies and help maintain a safety-first culture in the store.
• Make sure required safety training has been completed and that hazard assessments are available for associate reference.
• Confirm that protective equipment is available and used when needed.
• Check that equipment is in proper working order and report or support repair of safety hazards, including lockout/tagout situations where needed.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The role requires a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain it, and complete pre-employment drug screening and a background check. Strong customer service skills are needed, along with excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication abilities. Relevant experience of 0 to 3 years is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a retail position with heavy physical demands. The associate will regularly stand or walk on different flooring surfaces, use manual dexterity, communicate verbally, see and hear clearly, smell, and perform repetitive hand and foot movements. Frequent activities include reaching at waist height or overhead and carrying, pushing, or lifting loads within the required limits. Occasional tasks may involve sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet.

Working conditions may include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet or humid environments. Safety-related exposure may include twisting of the back or neck, slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous equipment, and sharp objects. Less frequent exposure may include loud noise, skin irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.

Common equipment used in the role includes cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register equipment, pricing guns, scales, scanners, and material-handling tools such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and a box cutter. Personal protective equipment may include goggles, gloves, and a back brace. The pulling requirement is 250 lbs, and the lifting requirement is 50 lbs.

Schedule and Travel

Travel is occasional, and overnight travel is not required. The shift pattern is varied.

Additional Information

The role involves maintaining compliance with wage and hour requirements and reinforcing safe work practices across the department. It also includes ensuring hazardous assessments are posted for associate use and that equipment remains in safe working condition.
