Planning Engineer

Role Overview

The Planning Engineer will be responsible for building, tracking, and refreshing project timelines so delivery stays on schedule and runs efficiently. The position calls for sharp analytical thinking, close attention to detail, and the ability to work with teams across different disciplines to measure progress, spot risks early, and help guide project decisions throughout each phase.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and continuously update detailed project schedules using standard planning software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
• Track project execution and compare actual performance with the approved baseline programme.
• Flag possible delays and project risks, then suggest practical actions to reduce their impact.
• Liaise with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to collect accurate progress information.
• Produce recurring reports covering status updates, schedule reviews, and forward-looking forecasts.
• Carry out critical path analysis and recommend improvements to help protect or shorten timelines.
• Assist project management with planning resources and assigning them effectively.
• Make sure project activities align with requirements, standards, and contractual commitments.
• Support the assessment of variations, claims, and extensions of time (EOT).

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Civil, Mechanical, or a similar discipline.
• At least 12 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, ideally in construction or infrastructure settings.
• Strong hands-on experience with Primavera P6 or comparable scheduling tools.
• Good knowledge of project controls, risk management, and construction project workflows.
• Excellent skills in analysis, communication, and report preparation.
• Experience on major projects in the Middle East will be considered a plus.
• Comfortable working collaboratively in a busy, fast-moving environment.
