Role overview
Essex County Council is hiring a Premises Assistant for Adult Community Learning in Colchester. This is a permanent, full-time position based on site, offering a salary of £25,959 per year. The role supports a safe, tidy, and welcoming learning environment for staff, learners, visitors, and contractors.
Adult Community Learning delivers lifelong learning opportunities for Essex residents, helping people build qualifications, improve employability, and strengthen life skills. The post is a fixed-base worker role at the Colchester centre. The closing date for applications is 21 June 2026.
Working pattern
The centre operates on a two-week shift cycle:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 14:30
- Week 2: Monday 09:00 to 17:00, Tuesday to Thursday 14:00 to 22:00, Friday 09:00 to 17:00
You must also work at least one Saturday each month from 08:00 to 14:00, with time off in lieu. Flexibility is required to cover staffing gaps when business needs change. Outside term time, the working hours are daytime only.

The Premises Assistant will look after cleaning, caretaking, building security, and day-to-day site support, while also helping ensure Health & Safety standards are followed and monitored across the centre.
