Principal Civil Structural Engineer

Role overview

Wood is looking for a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to join its Qatar office on a long-term basis. This senior position supports delivery across concept studies, FEED, EPC, and PMC assignments, with work spanning both brownfield and greenfield opportunities.

Key responsibilities

You will be accountable for delivering project work in line with the project execution plan, Wood procedures, project requirements, and agreed safety and quality controls while staying within budget, man-hours, and schedule targets.

• Prepare, review, and own detailed calculations, civil datasheets, and drawings needed to define project civil requirements.
• Design and analyze new and existing buildings, structures, foundations, infrastructure, and civil works, including drainage, roads, and pavements used in oil and gas facilities.
• Develop and check concrete and steel structures such as piperacks, buildings, technological structures, equipment supports, pipe bridges, pipe supports, and pipe sleepers.
• Design and verify different foundation types, including isolated, combined, raft, dynamic, equipment, compressor, and pump foundations, as well as underground pits and structures.
• Assess the adequacy of existing structures and foundations, including piperacks, buildings, pipe bridges, technological structures, and equipment foundations.
• Work on recent projects using Intergraph Smart Plant 3D modeling.
• Guide less experienced civil engineers and, where needed, act as line manager for civil staff in the Qatar office.
• Take on Lead Engineer duties when required, including estimating, planning, and progress reporting.
• Support recruitment, training, and capability development of civil team members.
• Apply company standards and procedures to meet schedule and budget expectations as directed by the Lead Civil Engineer.
• Stay current with developments in relevant technical areas and apply suitable solutions to project challenges.
• Contribute sound technical judgment to help deliver demanding project and client objectives.
• Use and check engineering tools such as STAAD-Pro, Foundation 3D, and Mat 3D.
• Take ownership of personal and professional development.
• Ensure all Wood and client HSE and quality requirements are followed and that work is delivered to a high safety standard.
• Recognize commercial and technical risks, manage them within your scope, and escalate major issues to the Lead Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and help develop practical solutions for the department and projects.
