Key responsibilities

• Carry out internal audit assignments and complete them on schedule while following professional auditing standards.
• Keep senior colleagues informed on progress, blockers, and key issues as work advances.
• Assess internal controls and record observations using established audit methods.
• Leverage audit technology and software to make audit work more efficient and effective.
• Recommend practical actions that strengthen risk management and improve internal processes.
• Develop trusted working relationships with stakeholders to support stronger collaboration and control environments.
• Work with senior leaders across CRH and its operating companies.
• Contribute to initiatives that improve audit approaches, technology use, and team capability.

Technical and functional requirements

• Working knowledge of group financial policies and standards.
• Ability to analyze financial information, collect data effectively, and maintain awareness of data quality.
• Understanding of SOX compliance and control-testing approaches.
• Capability to design audit plans based on identified risks and adapt work as needed during execution.
• Skill in identifying weaknesses in accounting and financial policies, systems, tools, processes, and controls.
• Ability to document audit work clearly and concisely to support reporting.
• Comfort working collaboratively and building strong partnerships to achieve shared goals.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
• Openness to change and a mindset for improving procedures and streamlining work.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and prioritization ability.

Experience and education

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related subject.
• At least 5 years of experience in public accounting or industry roles.
• A professional accounting qualification such as CPA, CIA, or ACCA.
• Background in SOX, corporate governance, internal controls, compliance, and substantive testing.
• Willingness to travel to CRH locations, with travel making up about 30% of the role.
• A full, clean driving license is required to support travel duties.

Preferred experience

• Exposure to data analytics and tools such as Excel, Power BI, and Tableau.
• Familiarity with audit software and data analytics platforms.
• Knowledge of a second European language such as French, German, Polish, or Romanian.
