This is a great opportunity for an experienced planner to join the close-knit Planning Team in Wellington. The role sits within the wider national planning network of 60 planners, giving you the chance to contribute to projects in a range of locations and sectors across Aotearoa. The team is looking for a Senior Planner interested in building a career across council work, infrastructure, and energy projects.
What you will do
- Assist with the delivery and ongoing coordination of the existing council client portfolio, including policy, urban growth, infrastructure planning, and regulatory planning needs.
- Help deliver successful outcomes for government and private sector clients across projects involving infrastructure, energy, forestry, subdivision, land use, and other planning-related work.
- Work alongside the New Zealand and Pacific service line and collaborate with specialists from other disciplines on Wellington-based project work.
- Carry out planning analysis, research, and reporting that supports strong client outcomes.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen effective relationships with clients and internal team members, including colleagues in other technical disciplines.
- Develop productive working relationships with councils, government agencies, clients, and wider SLR teams.
Skills and experience
- A recognised qualification in planning or another relevant field.
- Current NZPI membership, or active progress toward full membership.
- Between 5 and 8 years of planning experience.
- Background in delivering infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to work in, and lead where needed, multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong organisational and time management ability, with confidence handling multiple deadlines at once.
- Clear, concise, and professional written communication.
- Working understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
