Role Overview
FMI is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent for an ICI project in Vancouver, British Columbia. The right person will be highly organized, analytical, and confident in leading site operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead site safety efforts by putting the safety program into practice and tracking the performance of the site crew and subcontractors.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by communicating clearly, documenting properly, and making sure project requirements and standards are met.
- Provide day-to-day direction to FMI field staff, including coaching and mentorship.
- Oversee and develop on-site team members through regular feedback, run foreman meetings, and keep the crew and subcontractors engaged and productive.
- Check that subcontractor work meets quality expectations and holds a strong level of accountability.
- Work with the Project Manager to review budgets and estimates, understand the full project picture, avoid unnecessary delays or extra costs, and track financial performance.
- Study drawings and project documents for accuracy, enforce subcontractor contract terms, spot scope gaps or conflicts, and support the team in resolving issues that affect schedule or execution.
- Use standard scheduling software to build project schedules when needed.
- Track company equipment and materials so the right resources are available where and when they are needed.
- Identify training needs among field staff, help deliver training when qualified, and support apprenticeship programs as required.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate brings 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in construction supervision or superintendent roles in Vancouver, British Columbia. They should have strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, along with a proactive approach to handling challenging situations.
Experience should cover safety, people management, project delivery, cost control, quality, and administration. Candidates must also understand local, provincial, and federal workplace rules, ordinances, legislation, and building codes. Familiarity with rough carpentry and concrete self-perform work is expected.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders. Technical diplomas and Gold Seal certification are considered beneficial.
