Authorium is creating the operating system behind public-sector administration. Its GovTech SaaS platform brings together the large, interdependent processes that keep state and local governments operating, including procurement, grants, and budgeting.

Instead of disconnected spreadsheets and outdated legacy software, the platform provides a shared data foundation for managing billions of dollars in public money. It supports agencies serving millions of residents, including California’s CDSS, CalPERS, and EDD, along with major state organizations in Florida and Washington.

The company is a 43-person team that has been expanding at 45% year over year and is on track to reach profitability by Q4 2026. It has strong product-market fit and is growing to meet the needs of very large government agencies.

Why this role exists

Authorium is building its San Francisco office into a hub for close collaboration and product-driven engineering. This role is intended for a new engineer who enjoys working in person, wants frequent access to architectural discussions, and values learning by being directly involved in high-stakes technical decisions.

Although the company operates with a distributed model, the SF office is where especially complex problem-solving happens, from reworking the core domain into modular pieces to designing the next generation of the workflow engine. In this position, you will help preserve the technical quality of the platform, release important product capabilities, and work daily with a strong team during a major growth phase.

What you will do

• Own and deliver meaningful product work from the beginning, including complex features such as versioning, approval flows, and permission systems, with expectations similar to the rest of the engineering team.
• Take part in architectural conversations and contribute to ADRs, gaining practical experience while also developing and defending your own technical judgment early on.
• Collaborate face to face in the San Francisco office from Monday through Thursday to solve problems, investigate production issues, and move quickly from ideas to deployment.
• Maintain strong engineering standards through careful reviews, thorough testing, and helping improve automated quality checks. Prior co-op or internship experience is expected to have given you exposure to production-quality work.
• Work in an AI-forward development environment using tools like Cursor and Claude to reduce repetitive work and spend more time on complex implementation. You will also help improve AI-based practices such as agentic testing and automated code review.

Requirements

• You should have substantial co-op or internship experience, ideally across at least three terms in software engineering roles where you contributed to production systems rather than only internal tools.
• You need to be comfortable thinking in systems, including understanding data models, system boundaries, and trade-offs from hands-on work in real codebases.
• You should be able to work with a high degree of independence in fast-moving settings, asking useful questions while continuing to make progress without waiting for perfect direction.
• You must have an understanding of secure development practices and authorization concepts, with security treated as part of the design rather than an afterthought.
• You are expected to care deeply about code quality, testing, and clear pull requests, and to avoid shortcuts that create problems for future teammates.
• You must be based in San Francisco and comfortable with an in-office schedule from Monday to Thursday.
• Preferred experience includes React and/or Next.js, Ruby on Rails, document generation or data processing, exposure to regulated industries such as GovTech, FinTech, or HealthTech, familiarity with AWS or deployment pipelines, and early-stage startup experience.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $102K to $138K.
