About the Company
auterra is a wine-led destination built around curiosity, quality, and hospitality. It brings together a curated wine bar and a fine wine retail concept, with the aim of helping everyone from casual guests to experienced collectors discover wines they will truly enjoy. The business is centred on respected producers, thoughtful service, and memorable wine experiences that extend well beyond a single pour.
The Opportunity
The team is seeking a guest-oriented Sommelier who will sit at the centre of the wine journey at auterra. This person will help guests navigate a carefully selected list, nurture relationships with collectors and wine lovers, and contribute directly to the expansion of both the bar and retail sides of the business. The role suits someone with a strong passion for wine, a natural ease with people, and the drive to make a meaningful contribution in a growing wine environment.
Key Duties
- Create warm, personalised wine experiences that resonate with every guest, whether they are new to wine or well-versed collectors.
- Suggest wines that match a guest’s taste, occasion, and budget in a confident, approachable manner.
- Handle wine presentation, opening, decanting, and service to professional standards.
- Explain producers, vintages, regions, and winemaking styles in a clear and engaging way.
- Develop lasting connections with regular guests and private clientele.
- Use thoughtful recommendations and upselling to help grow wine sales.
- Highlight new arrivals, featured bottles, rare allocations, and cellar selections.
- Support retail sales by guiding guests on take-home purchases and cellar-building choices.
- Build rapport with private collectors and enthusiasts.
- Assist with tastings, producer-led events, and other special wine experiences.
- Help receive and inspect incoming wine deliveries.
- Keep the cellar well organised and ensure proper storage conditions are maintained.
- Track stock levels and flag replenishment requirements.
- Take part in stock counts and inventory checks.
- Handle fine and rare wines with care and accuracy.
- Support day-to-day floor operations and keep wine displays, retail shelves, and guest spaces well presented.
- Contribute to opening and closing routines.
- Ensure wine service tools and equipment remain in excellent working order.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a sommelier, wine specialist, wine retail, or wine-focused hospitality position.
- Good working knowledge of key wine regions including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, and the United States.
- Practical understanding of wine service, decanting, storage, and cellar operations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with a guest-first approach.
- Comfortable with sales and confident in recommending wines at different price levels.
- WSET Level 2 or Level 3 certification, or Court of Master Sommeliers certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Prior exposure to a wine bar, fine wine retail setting, or collector-focused environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with Burgundy, Champagne, Rhône, Piedmont, Tuscany, Mosel, and similar fine wine appellations is an advantage.
- Knowledge of grower Champagne, small-scale producers, and limited-release wines is an added plus.
- Work schedule is Monday to Friday.
- The venue is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Singapore Public Holidays.
- Standard working hours will be discussed during the interview process.
