Sterilisation Technician

Role overview

St John of God Midland Private Hospital is looking for enthusiastic Sterilisation Technicians to become part of the team, with commencement planned for late August. In this important position, you will help preserve the quality, handling, and readiness of surgical instruments, sterile stock, linen, supplies, and equipment, following established competency requirements and infection control practices. You will be based in a supportive, professional setting that contributes directly to safe, effective patient care in a newly opened facility.

Key duties

• Look after surgical instruments, sterile stock, linen, supplies, and equipment so they remain in line with competency expectations, including working knowledge of AS 5369:2023.
• Support a safe and hygienic workplace by following infection prevention procedures and using approved cleaning products.
• Help build strong communication, teamwork, and a patient-focused service culture across the Operating Suite, CSD, and the broader hospital.
• Use time, equipment, and materials efficiently, including managing stock levels, checking storage spaces, and making sure required supplies are prepared and accessible.
• Carry out sterilisation tasks such as daily and weekly steriliser testing and cleaning, while keeping thorough and accurate documentation.
• Serve as a technical support contact for CSSD colleagues and other teams, including assistance with training, competency checks, and updates on relevant technologies.
• Take part in unit-based support roles, rotational Operating Suite duties, departmental projects, and continuous professional learning, including mandatory training and competency obligations.
• Complete any other reasonable tasks assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.

What we are looking for

To succeed in this role, you should hold a Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (HLT37015) or an equivalent AQF3 qualification. You will need strong interpersonal and written communication skills, along with the ability to organise your workload and prioritise effectively in a busy environment. A team-oriented mindset is essential, as the role requires close cooperation with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams. The ability to assist with teaching and knowledge transfer within CSSD and related areas is also important, as is a genuine commitment to customer service. Prior experience in sterilisation or a healthcare setting would be an advantage.

About the hospital

The new Midland Private Hospital is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility under construction, located about 300 metres from the St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Campus. It will provide a wide range of medical and surgical services, including interventional cardiology for the first time in the region.

• 96 overnight inpatient beds, including a six-bed critical care/high dependency unit
• 33-bed/chair short stay and day procedure unit
• Eight operating theatres
• A cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory

Pay and employment options

• Annual salary: $72,408 to $76,718, pro rata for part-time staff, plus 12% superannuation
• Casual hourly rate: $45.65 to $48.37, plus 12% superannuation
• Both casual and permanent roles are available
• Salary packaging options may include mortgage, rent, meal entertainment, holiday accommodation, and other daily living expenses, up to $18,550 for permanent employees and a percentage of earnings for casual employees
