Role overview
This position is for a UX/UI designer who is passionate about creating digital experiences that genuinely serve the people using them. You will sit at the crossroads of design, technology, and customer understanding, working closely with developers, consultants, ecommerce specialists, and clients to produce interfaces that are easy to use, visually polished, and built to drive results.
The role is hands-on from the outset. You will help turn client needs into well-defined design briefs, facilitate workshops, develop concepts, create prototypes, and confidently present your thinking. Projects may include brand work, website enhancements, full rebuilds, and Shopify migrations, so the variety of work will be broad and constantly changing.
Key responsibilities
- Convert client needs into practical design briefs and lead the design journey from start to finish across branding, websites, and Shopify migration projects.
- Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, site maps, prioritisation charts, information architecture, and interactive high-fidelity prototypes that match project objectives and budget constraints.
- Develop mood boards and visual direction presentations that help define the creative concept before production begins.
- Produce attractive, consistent, and conversion-focused interfaces that remain aligned with each client's brand.
- Use insights from data to shape UX/UI decisions and improve them over time.
- Present concepts and final design solutions in a clear and persuasive way, helping clients choose the strongest path forward.
- Facilitate UX/UI workshops both internally and with clients or external partners.
- Refine designs in response to client and stakeholder feedback to ensure a strong final outcome.
- Partner with the Ecommerce Strategist on planning and strategic client initiatives.
- Work with Project Managers to estimate effort, manage time against approved budgets, and raise scope risks early.
- Prepare and maintain design documentation for clients and support content-related needs where required.
- Help improve and evolve the internal design framework over time.
- Keep file organisation, naming standards, and asset management clean and consistent.
- Contribute to sales proposals, support client training, and assist the wider team when needed.
- Record billable and non-billable time accurately and flag delivery risks as early as possible.
Requirements
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a comparable UX/UI design role.
- Strong proficiency in Figma and Miro.
- Practical working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Good understanding of interaction design, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
- Experience delivering design work in structured project-based environments.
- Strong understanding of Shopify and ecommerce.
- Interest in continued learning, including the use of AI-assisted design tools.
- Someone who communicates clearly, listens well, follows through reliably, and is comfortable making sound decisions even when all the information is not available.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to spot issues early rather than wait to be asked.
- A collaborative approach, while still bringing your own point of view and keeping the end user at the centre of the work.
Perks and benefits
- Supportive, collaborative team culture.
- Flexible working arrangements and a strong emphasis on balance between work and personal life.
- Birthday leave, volunteer days, and regular social activities.
- Clear growth pathways and opportunities to develop within the practice.
- Autonomy to help shape the practice, backed by an established trans-Tasman organisation.
- Work with a workplace that values inclusion, engagement, challenge, and support.
Additional information
The role reflects a broader “go beyond” mindset, combining solutions, services, and capabilities to help clients achieve their business vision, with AI used as an important lever for transformation. The organisation is looking for someone who is practical, collaborative, and excited about building modern solutions at scale.
About the team and culture
You will join a group that values outcomes over output and takes pride in creating meaningful work. The environment is described as diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking, with a strong emphasis on people feeling engaged, supported, challenged, and set up for success.
