Role overview
This is a full-time, on-site Associate Buyer position based in New York, NY. In this role, you will support the buying function by helping with assortment planning, vendor coordination, and purchase order processing so merchandise reaches stores on time and within budget. You will also work closely with merchandising, planning, and allocation teams to support assortment decisions and inventory flow.
What you will do
- Assist with assortment planning and help build the product mix for the season.
- Communicate with vendors and help manage purchase order execution.
- Review sales and inventory performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare materials and presentations for buying meetings and line reviews.
- Support product selection and help evaluate styles for the assortment.
- Track samples and keep related records organized and up to date.
- Coordinate with merchandising, planning, and allocation partners.
- Assist with markdown planning and replenishment decisions.
- Contribute to delivering an on-trend, size-inclusive assortment while supporting margin and sales targets.
Qualifications
- Strong comfort with numbers and analysis, especially when working with sales, inventory, and margin information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office tools; familiarity with retail or merchandising systems is an added advantage.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills for working with vendors and internal teams.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage several deadlines, samples, and purchase orders at once.
- Genuine interest in fashion, awareness of trends, and understanding of junior and value-focused customers.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative, on-site environment in New York, NY, with good judgment and flexibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Prior internship experience or 1–2 years in buying, merchandising, or a similar retail role is preferred, though not mandatory.
