नोकरीचे वर्णन
Role overview
This position is responsible for steering BURN’s bilateral Article 6.2 carbon projects in Kenya through the entire certification journey, from initial setup and field execution to audit coordination and the final release of carbon credits. The role reports to the Senior Carbon Project Manager, Carbon Operations, and carries ownership for planning, coordination, delivery, and milestone tracking across the full cycle.
The ideal candidate will bring solid project management experience and hands-on capability to run Article 6.2 work on the ground in Kenya. You will work closely with the Carbon Technical Team and other internal specialists who handle technical and authorization-related elements of the programme. Beyond Kenya, the role also supports Article 6.2 compliance for Carbon Operations project managers in other countries, helping to keep delivery standards and programme requirements consistent across the wider portfolio. There may also be occasions where you will manage Article 6.2 projects in other markets while based in Kenya.
Programme cycle management
- Coordinate Field Verification Reports for Kenya Article 6.2 projects, including field access, household arrangements, and all project-side inputs needed to meet verification milestones.
- Keep submission trackers and related project records current across the Kenya Article 6.2 portfolio, and raise any delays or risks to the Senior Carbon Project Manager together with recommended fixes.
- Assist project managers in other markets with their programme-cycle obligations for Article 6.2 work, including documentation standards, verification coordination practices, and tracker upkeep.
- Take on additional one-off programme tasks assigned by the Senior Carbon Project Manager, Carbon Operations.
Field research, data quality, and compliance
- Strengthen quality control across all data-collection phases for Kenya Article 6.2 projects while working with the MRV Coordinator.
- Contribute to project site selection by factoring in quality and risk considerations through PDG activities.
- Oversee quality checks for distribution work carried out under IPV activities, ensuring field teams follow approved procedures and standards.
- Monitor compliance with internal controls, bilateral programme rules, and the relevant verification requirements.
- Spot, escalate, and help address quality and compliance risks at every stage of the project.
- Manage quarterly monitoring cycles, including monitoring surveys, Kitchen Performance Tests, and Water Boiling Tests, in line with the programme methodology and BURN SOPs.
- Plan, coordinate, lead, and report on baseline surveys and baseline Kitchen Performance Tests according to Carbon Technical Team guidance.
- Organise field logistics across Kenya for survey execution.
- Recruit, onboard, and train data collectors and enumerators on tools such as ODK, KoboToolbox, and SurveyCTO.
- Maintain close supervision during data collection.
- Lead annual monitoring surveys, project Kitchen Performance Tests, and Water Boiling Tests, including scheduling, coordination of experienced enumerators and consultants, and live troubleshooting in the field.
- Build working knowledge of bilateral carbon standard requirements at each stage of the lifecycle so certification steps stay on track and audit readiness is maintained.
Stakeholder management and community engagement
- Run Local Stakeholder Consultations in Kenya in line with Carbon Technical Team guidance.
- Prepare country-level budgets, manage timelines, and identify and engage local facilitation partners.
- Arrange invitations through newspapers, radio, email, and direct outreach, host meetings, and compile supporting records for submission to the programme body.
- Develop strong working relationships with BURN’s Kenya representatives throughout the project lifecycle so carbon requirements are clearly understood and inputs are delivered on time.
- Ensure end-user awareness activities and community benefit commitments included in contractual obligations are planned, delivered, and documented on schedule.
Audit and verification management
- Handle logistics and coordination for carbon audits during validation and verification cycles for Kenya Article 6.2 projects.
- Select and book households for audit visits, ensuring they satisfy Carbon Technical Team standards.
- Support auditors during field interviews and manage scheduling and field coordination.
- Arrange transport and accommodation for everyone involved in audit visits.
- Keep all active Kenya Article 6.2 projects audit-ready by ensuring documentation and household records are complete and compliant ahead of verification periods.
- Expect regular travel within Kenya and internationally as required.
Documentation and reporting
- Compile and maintain supporting documentation needed at every stage of the carbon certification cycle, and provide timely inputs to the Carbon Technical Officer and Senior Carbon Project Manager.
- Maintain version-controlled records that align with audit and verification needs across all active Kenya Article 6.2 projects.
- Ensure all documents meet bilateral programme standards, internal controls, and programme guidelines.
- Own detailed Gantt charts from project inception through carbon credit issuance, making sure each milestone is planned, assigned, monitored, and completed on time and within scope.
- Prepare project budgets and expense reports for assigned projects and route them through first review by the Lead Carbon PM and final approval by the Senior Carbon Project Manager.
- Give regular progress updates to the Senior Carbon Project Manager, highlighting dependencies and emerging risks as they appear.
Vendor and contractor management
- Identify, onboard, and manage field vendors, consultants, and service providers needed across the Kenya project lifecycle, including field operations, logistics, data collection, and audit support.
- Ensure procurement follows BURN policies and that contractors consistently meet quality and delivery expectations.
Experience and knowledge
You should have at least 4 years of experience managing several fast-moving projects at the same time, with strong capability in planning, scheduling, risk control, budgeting, and end-to-end budget ownership. Comfort with tools such as Smartsheet and Excel is important, as is the ability to coordinate field stakeholders such as enumerators, vendors, local authorities, and community representatives.
This role also calls for close collaboration with Kenya country teams, the Carbon Technical Team, and other internal groups to ensure project inputs are delivered on time. Strong reporting, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills are needed, along with experience leading cross-functional field data-collection teams, enumerators, or research consultants. You should be able to manage time well, prioritise effectively, work through changing requirements, solve problems quickly in dynamic field settings, and adapt to shifting scopes, deadlines, and resources.
Industry-specific background
Useful background includes familiarity with the carbon project lifecycle and certification process, field MRV delivery, monitoring surveys, KPT/WBT coordination, and verifier engagement. Experience with Article 6.2 or other bilateral carbon programmes such as KliK/Switzerland, the Japanese JCM, or similar frameworks is valuable, as is understanding of standards such as Verra/VCS or Gold Standard.
Experience in BURN Manufacturing’s stove products or Kenya’s clean cooking sector, as well as work on institutional or commercial-scale cookstove carbon projects, will be an advantage. Prior exposure to Kenya or rural field environments in East Africa is also desirable. A PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent certification is preferred.
Eligibility and important notes
Applicants must have the right to live and work in Kenya. The role is open to candidates who are willing to travel locally and internationally as needed. It may also involve managing other Article 6.2 projects in additional markets while based in Kenya.
Female candidates are encouraged to apply. BURN does not charge any fee at any point in the recruitment process, including application, interviews, meetings, processing, training, or any other stage.
