Position overview

Ontario Northland is hiring a Cleaner for its Rail Mechanical department in Cochrane, Ontario. This role reports to the Supervisor, Equipment Maintenance and focuses on keeping railway equipment, coaches, parts, and shop areas clean and safe through consistent labour and cleaning support.

Key duties

• Clean and wash railway equipment, coaches, parts, and shop facilities.
• Adjust to new tools, processes, materials, and equipment as needed.
• Follow all required safety practices, including proper use of protective clothing and equipment.
• Carry out additional related tasks when assigned.
• Work on the current shift pattern of Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Secondary School Diploma or GED.
• Prior experience in cleaning and/or labour work.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organization and planning ability.
• Ability to work well in a team setting.
• Willingness to work different shifts, including weekends and overnight hours, and to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions as part of a 24-hour operation.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.

Compensation

The wage range for this role is $24.08 to $26.75 per hour. Increases follow the collective agreement, and the full rate becomes effective after one year of service.
