Custodian

Role overview

The custodian will be responsible for keeping the site’s indoor and outdoor areas clean, orderly, sanitary, and safe. This includes offices, warehouse spaces, and plant or manufacturing environments.

Key duties

• Preserve a tidy and safe indoor environment through routine housekeeping, organized upkeep, and careful attention to walkways and other traffic areas.
• Work according to assigned schedules to complete regular cleaning and sanitizing tasks, as well as one-off cleaning jobs when needed.
• Carry out general custodial work such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, collecting waste, emptying trash and recycling bins, and using equipment like floor sweepers, polishers, vacuums, and dusters.
• Keep restrooms, locker rooms, break areas, and footbaths clean and sanitary, while restocking paper goods and other supplies in these spaces.
• Track cleaning and facility supply inventory, and alert the correct contact or update the supply log so items can be reordered.
• Maintain the exterior areas, including building surroundings, outdoor facilities, and grounds; this may involve using power equipment for grounds maintenance.
• Respond to urgent cleaning or maintenance-related requests as they arise.
• Apply cleaning chemicals safely to sanitize and maintain the facility.
• Support requests from environmental health and safety, maintenance, management, and other team members, including helping prepare for inspections and special events.
• Issue personal protective equipment when needed.
• Follow all safety rules and use appropriate protective gear at all times.
• Carry out DFA GMP standards and work in line with corporate, regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation expectations; notify QA staff of any quality concerns.
• Complete any other duties assigned as required.

Education and experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior janitorial or cleaning experience is preferred. A certification and/or license may be required during employment.

Skills and abilities

The role calls for familiarity with cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, safe work practices, the ability to follow procedures and instructions with limited supervision, clear written recordkeeping, basic math, and the ability to read, write, and speak English.
