Job purpose
The main goal of this position is to support a memorable guest experience by helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen and restaurant environment.
Key duties
- Keep personal hygiene standards high at all times
- Work well with the rest of the team and support coworkers as needed
- Keep the workstation tidy and sanitary
- Run the dish machine correctly, including proper chemical levels
- Follow sanitation rules and operating standards
- Collect, sort, rinse, and rack dishes after use
- Clean pots and pans after each use
- Empty trash bins and keep dumpster areas clean
- Store silverware in the proper locations
- Make sure the kitchen stays stocked with clean dishes
- Maintain clean floors, work areas, and restrooms, including trash removal
- Clean restrooms on a regular basis
- Keep the parking area clear and free from litter
- Help maintain a clean, inviting atmosphere for guests
- Take on other tasks when assigned
Qualifications
- Comfortable working independently as well as with a team
- Able to manage several tasks at once
- Remains calm and composed in busy situations
- Reliable and able to work a flexible schedule
- Willing to complete any training or certification required by the company, federal law, or state law for this role
Experience and skills
- Prior restaurant experience and/or relevant training
- Good people and communication skills
- Basic ability in reading, writing, and math
- Comfort working in wet or humid conditions and around cleaning chemicals
- Frequent handwashing is part of the job
Physical requirements and work setting
This role is suited to back-of-house team members who can handle an active, fast-moving environment. The job involves standing for long periods and performing tasks such as walking, bending, lifting, reaching, crouching, touching, feeling, tasting, talking, hearing, wiping, and smelling. Employees may also be exposed to smoke from a wood-burning cooker and to moving mechanical parts. The position requires the ability to use tools, equipment, and paperwork, communicate clearly with the team, and perform the essential functions of the role for up to an 8-hour shift. Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Dishwashers may regularly lift up to 20 pounds and frequently lift up to 35 pounds.
