About the role
Specsavers is seeking a Licensed Optician for its Oshawa Centre location in Oshawa, Ontario. This position is scheduled for up to 40 hours per week, depending on business demand. The role sits within a global eyewear and eyecare business known for accessible eye care, quality products, and a customer-focused approach.

What you'll do
In this position, you will help customers choose eyewear that suits their vision needs, comfort, style, and day-to-day use. You will work alongside retail and clinical teams to provide professional support, personalized advice, and a strong customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Help customers understand their visual needs and read optical prescriptions provided by eye care professionals.
- Offer tailored advice on frames and lenses so each customer gets the right fit, comfort, and visual performance.
- Take accurate dispensing measurements using the company’s digital tools and complete eyewear quality checks.
- Build strong knowledge of frames, lenses, lens treatments, and ongoing promotions to educate customers effectively.
- Handle aftercare, including complaint resolution and practical problem solving.
- Support contact lens recommendations and promotions when directed by the Contact Lens Practitioner or Store Manager.
- Process third-party billing carefully and in line with fee schedules and agreements.
- Coach teammates and help strengthen their optical knowledge and technical skills.
- Contribute to store upkeep by maintaining cleanliness, supporting inventory control, and following brand and service standards.
Requirements
- Current registration with the College of Opticians and a valid dispensing optician license in the relevant province.
- At least 2 years of prior customer service experience, ideally in an optical dispensary setting.
- Comfort working in a busy retail environment while staying organized and composed.
- Availability and flexibility to work retail hours.
- A friendly, confident, and approachable manner, with the ability to suggest products and styling options.
- Interest in building long-term customer relationships through a service model focused on lasting connections.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada; immigration and permanent residency sponsorship are not provided.
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this role is CAD 28 to CAD 34 per hour, with the exact rate based on experience.
