Project Manager

Role overview

This position sits within the Project function and plays a key part in bringing in new equipment and processes, as well as improving and developing current production processes. The role is based in a tightly controlled cGMP pharmaceutical setting and reports to the Engineering Manager. It covers project launches, problem-solving, equipment upgrades, procurement, manufacturing and packaging support, and process validation work.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, planning, and coordination abilities, be comfortable working through change, and be able to guide cross-functional teams while meeting demanding deadlines. Prior exposure to pharmaceutical projects, along with experience in equipment procurement and validation, is essential.

Key responsibilities

You will manage projects from planning through delivery, making sure timelines, budgets, safety, quality, regulatory, and operational expectations are met. The role also includes schedule building, task allocation, milestone tracking, stakeholder communication, and regular reporting.

HSE considerations must be built into every stage of the project, from design and construction through commissioning and handover to Operations. You will also be expected to promote a strong safety culture, provide practical safety leadership, develop project-specific safety plans and training, coordinate HSE performance, and lead investigations into project-related incidents.

Other duties include managing process and equipment trials and validation, leading project teams across Production/Operations, Quality, Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Facilities, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance, and carrying out project scoping and gap analysis. You will oversee equipment specification, design, procurement, installation, and validation, work on improving existing processes to meet output targets, and ensure all changes follow the approved change control process so cGMP standards are maintained.

The role also involves preparing, reviewing, and approving project documents such as scopes, user requirement specifications, trial reports, and standard operating procedures. In addition, you will support validation work by reviewing validation documentation and attending validation activities such as FAT, IQOQ, and related checks.

Requirements

A B.Eng in Engineering or a suitable science/engineering discipline is required, along with at least 5 years of recent project management experience in the Pharma, Biotech, or Chemical sector. You should have a solid understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes such as dry blending, compression, compaction, coating, granulation, containment, and material handling.

A strong record of delivering projects is expected, together with the ability to plan, organise, and complete several priorities within tight deadlines. Experience leading cross-functional teams is preferred.
