Site Engineer

Role overview

We are seeking a Site Engineer to contribute to a major retaining structures project in Wellington. This position offers the chance to grow your civil construction experience while being part of a supportive and expanding team. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineers, Supervisors, and site crews to help deliver the project safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Help site teams deliver work in line with the programme, specifications, and client expectations.
• Assist with survey tasks, set-out work, and construction verification.
• Coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials, and plant to keep delivery on track.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Prepare and maintain quality assurance documentation and project records.
• Track quantities, subcontractor progress, and production information.
• Keep project information updated in Procore and other management systems.
• Support inspection and test plans, organise inspections, and record outcomes.
• Assist with environmental, health and safety, and quality compliance across the job.
• Carry out site inspections, audits, meeting minutes, photo records, and progress reporting.
• Support estimating, quantity take-offs, and procurement activities.
• Assist with cost control through purchase orders, invoice checks, and job cost tracking.

What you should bring

The ideal candidate will have a qualification in Civil Engineering or another construction-related field, along with prior experience as a Site Engineer in structural construction. Experience on retaining walls, geotechnical works, structural projects, earthworks, or infrastructure jobs will be highly valued.

You should be comfortable with QA procedures, site paperwork, and common construction methods, and bring strong organisation, attention to detail, and confidence when dealing with site teams, subcontractors, consultants, and clients. A proactive mindset and the ability to take ownership of your work are important for this role.
