Software Engineer, Web Application

Role Overview

Iambic is developing a secure, cloud-native platform that powers AI- and ML-assisted drug discovery. In this position, you will own and improve the web application that scientists use as the main entry point to the platform. The work spans the user interface, the FastAPI-based HTTP layer, and the shared service layer underneath, with a strong focus on delivering reliable features for chemists and biologists while protecting sensitive scientific information.

This opportunity is suited to a hands-on engineer who enjoys delivering complete product features, cares about the experience of technical but non-developer users, and understands that the web layer should remain a thin, secure adapter over reusable services rather than a place for core business rules. The role is based in the company’s new Ireland office in Dublin and follows a hybrid working model.

What You Will Do

• Develop and refine a Python-based web application, including its interface, request handling layer, and surrounding workflows.
• Move comfortably across the stack, from server-rendered UI built with HTMX to FastAPI route handlers and the underlying service architecture.
• Partner with subject-matter experts, especially chemists and biologists involved in drug-discovery work, to translate needs into practical product features.
• Create interfaces that are easy to understand and operate for non-engineers, and help shape onboarding content plus in-product guidance.
• Keep the HTTP layer lightweight and focused on contracts, leaving business logic in the service layer so it can be reused by other future entry points.
• Protect sensitive data by applying authorization and access controls on every request and by returning clear, safe errors instead of failing silently.
• Contribute to product design conversations, peer reviews, and technical documentation.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong full-stack engineering experience with production Python, including work on server-rendered interfaces such as HTMX.
• Background building and supporting production web applications or SaaS products.
• Solid understanding of HTTP API design and structured backend services, ideally with FastAPI or an equivalent framework.
• Experience working with relational databases.
• Evidence of building practical, user-friendly interfaces and improving them based on feedback from real users.
• Comfort working alongside scientific or other domain specialists on data-heavy problems.
• Working knowledge of web security basics, including authentication, authorization, session management, and handling sensitive information, is preferred.
• Exposure to containers and CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed environment.

• Python with modern development tooling such as uv and pixi
• FastAPI implemented with a clean service-layer pattern
• Server-rendered user interfaces using HTMX
• PostgreSQL and object storage through S3
• AWS services, including ECS and related components
• Infrastructure as code, automated CI/CD, and containerized services
• Use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code in everyday development
