Role overview
The Kingsley is looking to appoint a Bar Manager to join a dynamic, forward-thinking food and beverage team led by F&B Director Rodrigo De Fino Bender. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on running the bar smoothly, elevating guest experience, and bringing fresh ideas that help the venue move to the next level.
Key duties
- Lead the bar operation with a strong focus on service quality and excellent interpersonal interaction.
- Oversee everyday bar activity and ensure standards are consistently maintained.
- Recruit, train, guide, and supervise bar team members.
- Carry out staff appraisals, recognition, and support career development and rewards.
- Use team strengths effectively and help develop staff potential through good people management.
- Maintain deep product knowledge across spirits, beers, wines, cocktails, and liqueurs.
- Introduce creative ideas and innovations that enhance the bar offering.
- Work toward beverage gross profit and payroll percentage targets.
- Monitor stock, control inventory, and place orders as needed.
- Manage costs carefully and reduce waste wherever possible.
- Ensure compliance with alcohol licensing rules and health and safety requirements.
- Handle customer complaints professionally while protecting service standards.
- Manage cash procedures and prepare end-of-day reports accurately.
- Support promotions, menu changes, and special event activity.
- Plan and organise events such as pre-drinks receptions, cocktail parties, and wedding functions.
- Represent the bar through external and internal social media activity, including videos and posts.
- Attend hotel meetings and events both internally and externally when required.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in a bar management position.
- Strong customer service skills and a polished, guest-focused approach.
- Good working knowledge of alcoholic beverages and cocktails.
- Full RSA knowledge and understanding of responsible alcohol service.
- Excellent grooming and presentation standards.
- Strong leadership and people management ability.
- Experience with stock control and inventory management.
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Clear communication and strong organisational skills.
