Role overview

Tucson Unified School District is seeking a custodian for the 2026–2027 school year. The role focuses on keeping assigned district buildings or school areas clean and maintained in line with county health department standards and the district Custodial Services Department’s requirements.

Key duties

• Carry out a variety of cleaning tasks in designated areas of district facilities and schools.
• Work according to established health, safety, and custodial standards.

Minimum qualifications

• At least 1 year of custodial work experience.
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
• Ability to understand written, visual, and spoken instructions in English.

Requirements before the start date

• Completion of an FBI fingerprint background check.
• Documentation showing immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR vaccination.
• Successful post-offer/pre-employment physical exam and a 50-pound lifting test.
• Completion of mandatory TUSD new-hire custodial training.

Schedule and working conditions

This position is effective for the 2026–2027 school year and is based at Catalina High School in the Pima & Dodge area. It is a 1.0 FTE role, equal to 8 hours per day, on a 12-month work calendar. The shift is in the afternoon/evening (PM shift).

Pay and benefits notes

The district has increased posted rates with additional funding from a community-approved override that is guaranteed through June 2031. Employees working fewer than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits. Internal candidates will move at a rate aligned with their bargaining unit language.
