Role overview

Acero is looking for a driven and enthusiastic Intermediate Process Engineer with 7+ years of experience to join its Calgary team. The position calls for someone who can operate with a high degree of independence, support technical decision-making, and contribute to the delivery of small projects with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out process modelling and engineering calculations, prepare project documentation, and support client-facing technical work. The role also involves ensuring work is aligned with applicable codes, standards, and company practices.

• Create process simulations using software tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Flare System Analyzer, and internal spreadsheet models.
• Apply process engineering knowledge in gas processing, PSV sizing, line sizing, and flare system analysis.
• Complete sizing calculations for standard equipment and pipeline/piping flow systems.
• Draft process basis documents and reports with limited supervision, while communicating clearly on technical topics.
• Prepare process datasheets for equipment and instrumentation to support RFQ packages.
• Stay current on relevant codes and standards, including API, ASME, PHA methods, Alberta directives, and internal company standards.
• Contribute to the design of smaller projects independently from a Senior Process Engineer, while representing the company professionally with clients and managing scope, schedule, and cost expectations.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs, and review isometrics and plot plans with a strong understanding of the components shown.
• Tackle technical issues that require careful analysis of multiple factors and data sources.
• Take on additional duties as needed.

Experience and qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering, along with professional engineer registration in Alberta through APEGA. Registration with EGBC is also preferred.

Applicants should bring at least 7 years of relevant experience in oil and gas facilities engineering, with EPCM exposure considered essential. Strong command of HYSYS is required.

Helpful background includes fabrication shop experience and the ability to work independently in the field when needed. The role also calls for excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, plus the ability to perform under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also expected.
