About the role
Mackay Regional Council is looking for a dependable, practical Labourer to join the Civil Operations team based at the Calen Depot in Mackay, Queensland. This position focuses on supporting the upkeep and delivery of road, drainage, and broader civil infrastructure works through a mix of manual labour, plant operation, and truck driving.
Key duties
- Drive rigid vehicles of up to 15 tonnes and operate small ride-on machinery as well as light mechanical plant.
- Assist with civil maintenance and construction tasks across roads, drainage, and related infrastructure, including earthworks, concrete work, pipelaying, bitumen activities, and vegetation control.
- Carry out traffic management duties and help maintain safe control of work zones.
- Look after assigned plant and equipment by completing daily inspections and carrying out minor repairs when needed.
- Use digital tools and software to track work orders and allocate tasks.
- Provide helpful, professional service to both internal colleagues and external customers.
- Complete documentation and paperwork accurately and without delay.
- Take part in practical training and ongoing skills development on the job.
- Help maintain a safe workplace and follow all health and safety requirements.
What you need
- A current White Card for general construction safety.
- A valid Queensland manual C class open driver's licence.
- A current Queensland MR licence, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
- Current traffic controller accreditation (TCT and TMI), or the ability to obtain it within 3 months.
- Hands-on experience in truck driving, operating small ride-on equipment, and carrying out road or drainage construction and maintenance work.
Desirable experience
- Certificate II in Civil Construction.
- Experience using asset management software, particularly Assetic AMS.
- Previous exposure to traffic control and bitumen-related work.

- Base annual salary of $64,517, equivalent to $1,240 per week, plus any applicable allowances.
