Lead Operator

Job Summary

This position is responsible for carrying out field operating tasks carefully and consistently to support safe, stable, and dependable plant operations. The role requires prompt response to emergencies in line with standing procedures and Shift Supervisor guidance, along with quick resolution of technical issues, clear communication, and effective handling of operational deviations.

Communication

• Internal communication is expected on a regular basis with the reporting line to exchange updates, follow policies, discuss performance indicators, and coordinate support for other departments.
• No external communication duties are specified.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out daily operational work to keep the facility running reliably while following all safety, health, and environmental requirements.
• Track operating conditions closely so product specifications are achieved, and maintain accurate records in systems such as the operations logbook.
• Observe key process parameters, review any required adjustments with the supervisor, and follow instructions and cautions carefully.
• Recognize possible operating issues early and manage emergencies using approved procedures and instructions.
• Record safety violations and incidents accurately and on time, take corrective action where needed, and help maintain refinery output and quality targets in coordination with relevant YASREF teams.
• Support the OME team member before and after daily meetings to reinforce strong safety performance and compliance with HSE standards.
• Conduct start-up and shutdown activities according to approved procedures and general directions.
• Take part in identifying, planning, and applying opportunities to improve work processes.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and process interruptions and help restore normal operations.
• Coordinate closely with maintenance teams and contractors, ensuring permits and isolations follow YASREF business procedures.
• Monitor environmental thresholds and arrange disposal of hazardous plant waste in line with regulations.
• Perform emergency response duties as assigned under the ERP.
• Complete certification tasks according to the planned schedule and apply learned skills under supervisor guidance.
• Escalate plant abnormalities promptly to the direct supervisor and remain visible at site throughout shift hours.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance work in accordance with the operating instruction manual.
• Check equipment condition within the unit against operating instructions and planned process parameters.
• Perform routine operations and housekeeping to support plant capacity and meet standards for operations, safety, health, environment, reliability, and engineering.
• Handle any additional work-related assignments given by the direct supervisor.

Education and Experience

A two-year diploma in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification is required. The role also calls for 12 years of relevant work experience.

Additional Information

This role includes responsibility for emergency response procedures, permit and isolation compliance, environmental waste handling, and ongoing job certification tasks. Regular site presence during shift hours is required.
