Mechanical Estimator

Role overview

This is an opportunity to join a major engineering contractor through Elusav Recruitment as a Mechanical Estimator in Dublin. The position focuses on building detailed cost estimates and preparing competitive tender submissions for major data centre developments across Europe.

The role centres on reviewing technical drawings and specifications, measuring quantities, building pricing schedules, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, flagging commercial and project risks, and working in close partnership with Mechanical, Electrical and CSA colleagues during the tender stage.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare management updates for bids and monthly review meetings.
• Develop cost estimates from project drawings and specification documents.
• Measure quantities and compile pricing documentation.
• Coordinate pricing inputs for building elements from Irish and European subcontractors and suppliers.
• Use spreadsheets to compare subcontractor quotations and bids, and document the rationale for supplier selection.
• Support the upkeep of the cost database.
• Present estimates to the Estimating Director and, when needed, to the Board of Directors.
• Develop strong working relationships with vendors such as subcontractors, suppliers, and engineers.
• Stay up to date with changes and developments in the construction sector.
• Contribute to improving department procedures to maintain strong document quality standards.
• Follow quality assurance processes across estimating outputs and tender submissions.
• Coach and support junior team members.
• Work collaboratively with CSA and Electrical Estimators throughout the tender process.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience in a mechanical-focused role.
• Background in estimating or quantity surveying.
• Working knowledge of FIDIC contracts is an advantage.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel, plus at least one widely used QS/BQ software package such as Buildsoft or CostX.
• Strong understanding of the need for high-quality subcontract tender documentation and tender submissions.
