Uber Technologies, Inc. is hiring a Software Engineer for its New York, New York office. This is a full-time role, and telecommuting may be allowed. The position offers annual compensation in the range of $150,000 to $166,000.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work on designing, building, and validating software applications using the company’s technology stack. You will apply technical expertise to assess complex data, ongoing developments, and project requirements, then recommend solutions to technical challenges. The job also involves supporting business operations, improving engineering productivity, and creating software components that fit into larger end-to-end systems.

You will help resolve production problems related to product behavior and system reliability, while also contributing to Uber Eats’ next-generation feed personalization and advertising infrastructure. The work includes developing backend systems that support customized user experiences, merchant discoverability, and internal operations tools across multiple global markets.

Additional responsibilities include leading the design and launch of feed customization capabilities, adapting home feed content to local preferences and market conditions, and building an internal explainability solution that shortens debugging time for feed issues and makes feed behavior easier to understand for non-technical teams. You will also perform performance reviews and system profiling of backend feed logic, remove low-value or redundant features to improve response times and lower infrastructure costs, and collaborate with senior engineers and product partners on the long-term architecture of the Uber Eats home feed. The role emphasizes engineering best practices such as design reviews, documentation, and mentorship for newer team members.

Requirements

The employer will consider applicants with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.

Candidates should have experience with one or more of the following: C++, Python, Java, Git, or SVN; SQL or MySQL; data structures and algorithms; technology stack design; debugging and monitoring production services; distributed systems; and the software development lifecycle.
