About the Role
This position is with Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) under the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Doniphan, Missouri. The role is a substitute support assignment that may be placed in one of several functions depending on staffing needs.
Compensation for this position is listed at $17.50.
Substitute Cook
In this assignment, the main focus is food preparation, meal service, and cleaning up the kitchen area after meals.
- Prepare and serve food in line with the guidelines set by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Food Section and the USDA.
- Carry out kitchen sanitation and cleanup tasks.
- Comply with local health department standards and expectations.
- Support students through assigned food service skill-building plans.
Substitute Custodial Worker
This assignment centers on keeping the building clean and the campus grounds in good condition.
- Maintain classrooms and facilities to the required cleanliness level.
- Use custodial equipment safely and keep it in proper working order.
- Help keep the building and outdoor areas safe, neat, and orderly.
- Apply safety practices when working around students, tools, equipment, and different environments.
- Handle cleaning materials safely and store them properly.
Substitute School Office Assistant
This assignment involves office support tasks such as typing, filing, records handling, phone coverage, and greeting visitors.
- Type using a computer keyboard and work confidently with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Access, and Outlook.
- Maintain moderately complex databases to support accurate service and management information.
- Check documents and reports to confirm they meet required quality standards.
- Help staff complete forms and related paperwork.
- Open, sort, process, and distribute incoming mail.
- Answer incoming calls, record messages, and direct callers efficiently.
- Welcome visitors, identify their purpose, and direct them to the appropriate person.
- Track and reorder office supplies as needed.
Substitute Teacher Aide
This assignment supports classroom instruction and student care by assisting the teacher with daily learning and support activities.
- Carry out instructional activities as directed by the teacher.
- Implement behavior support plans for individual students.
- Adjust support to meet each student’s communication needs.
- Supervise students during off-campus instruction.
- Follow the daily work schedule and classroom routine.
- Provide daily self-care support such as diapering, feeding, hand washing, and tooth brushing.
- Carry out student-specific health procedures after training from the school nurse.
- Assist with student arrival and dismissal, including transferring students between the bus and classroom.
Requirements
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Experience supporting individuals with severe disabilities is preferred. The department may also accept other qualifications or experience if, in the Commissioner of Education’s judgment, they satisfy the position requirements.
