Job Summary
Urban Skies is hiring an Architectural Designer to help shape and develop custom metalwork solutions for residential and commercial settings. This position suits a designer with a solid technical base who is ready to expand their expertise and step gradually into wider project coordination duties. You will collaborate with senior designers, fabricators, architects, and contractors to convert early ideas into practical, well-engineered outcomes. The ideal candidate should be able to show both creative thinking and strong technical ability in their portfolio or previous work.
Design and Technical Development
- Create concept artwork, detailed technical drawings, and 3D or model-based designs for bespoke metalwork elements such as brise soleil, balustrades, screens, pergolas, and other architectural features.
- Prepare precise drawings and specifications that can be used for fabrication and on-site installation.
- Turn design concepts into solutions that can be realistically manufactured and built.
- Assist with site measurements, surveys, and checks to confirm feasibility.
- Make sure all design work complies with structural, safety, and building regulation requirements.
Project Coordination
- Support projects from the initial brief stage through to installation.
- Help develop project scopes, timelines, and material schedules.
- Work with fabricators, suppliers, and installers to keep delivery on track.
- Assist in checking quality through fabrication and installation phases.
- Keep internal teams and outside partners updated with clear progress communication.
- With growing experience, take ownership of smaller projects with less supervision.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Join client discussions, design reviews, and site visits alongside senior colleagues.
- Offer practical advice on materials, finishes, and technical limitations.
- Develop productive relationships with architects, designers, and contractors.
- Represent Urban Skies in a professional, design-focused manner.
Operational and Commercial Support
- Help prepare design proposals, quotations, and project paperwork.
- Assist in tracking project costs and keeping work aligned with the agreed scope.
- Contribute ideas for improving design systems, templates, and workflows.
- Support ongoing improvements in design, fabrication, and installation practices.
Experience and Skills
The role calls for at least 2 years of experience in architectural design, product design, bespoke fabrication, or a similar area. Strong CAD capability is essential, including tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks. You should also have experience producing technical drawing sets and fabrication-ready documentation. Familiarity with manufacturing or construction workflows is important, and metalwork exposure will be an advantage. The position also requires the ability to combine visual appeal with practical buildability.
Project and Client Exposure
Applicants should have experience assisting with or coordinating design-focused projects. You should be comfortable handling several stakeholders at once and managing shifting priorities. Good organisation and strong attention to detail are essential. The role also needs someone who is willing to learn and develop toward full project ownership over time. Experience translating client requirements into usable design output is important, as is prior work with architects, designers, or contractors. Clear and confident communication is expected.
Personal Attributes
The right candidate will be self-driven, organised, and motivated to grow. You should be a practical problem-solver with a sharp eye for detail and a genuine interest in craftsmanship and precision. A calm, collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships are important. This role suits someone who is comfortable in a busy, design-led environment.
