Role overviewThis position is for a Business Analyst who uses data, business judgment, and structured analysis to turn information into practical action. In this position, you will take ownership of analyses and initiatives that shape decisions, improve performance, and support senior leadership.The role sits within Strategic Operations & Business Analytics, a fast-moving and innovative group supporting the Merchant Services, US Client Management organization. As part of this broader team, you will provide analytical support across a varied account portfolio and work closely with stakeholders and partner teams to help the business execute more effectively. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Strategic Operations and Business Analytics.The team’s purpose is to accelerate growth by acting as a collaboration and action hub for Merchant Services, US. Its focus is on expanding client manager capacity and effectiveness through useful data, actionable insights, and operational support; improving customer and partner outcomes; and strengthening colleague engagement while enhancing governance and operational effectiveness.Shift timingThe working shift for this role is 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM.Key responsibilitiesExamine large and complex datasets to spot patterns, surface insights, and suggest practical next steps.Look past standard reporting by probing the reasons behind the numbers and testing assumptions.Convert analysis into clear, persuasive stories that can guide decisions across the business.Manage recurring and one-time analyses while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and relevance to business needs.Support and lead projects focused on performance evaluation, growth opportunities, and operational improvement.Identify ways to improve processes, introduce automation, and make solutions more scalable.Explore the use of AI, automation, and modern tools to increase efficiency and business impact.Work with cross-functional partners to solve problems and influence outcomes.Keep expanding both technical and business knowledge by learning and applying new tools and methods.Communicate insights in a way that is appropriate for different audiences, including individual contributors and senior leaders.Required qualificationsStrong analytical capability and financial understanding, with the ability to use data to support hypotheses and tell a compelling story.Solid judgment and problem-solving ability.Strategic mindset with the ability to work independently, move initiatives forward, and deliver results.Strong planning and project management skills.Excellent spoken and written communication skills.Ability to handle several projects at different stages while meeting competing deadlines.Proven collaboration skills and the ability to drive results with multiple stakeholders across levels.Comfort working with senior leaders as well as peers.Ability to quickly learn business systems, including reporting tools and CRM platforms.Advanced knowledge of Power BI, Power Apps, PowerPoint, Excel, and Salesforce; SQL, Python, and Tableau are preferred.At least 2 years of relevant experience in similar work.About the companyAmerican Express is built on a long tradition of innovation, shared values, and leadership behaviors, with a strong focus on supporting customers, communities, and colleagues.
