Role Overview
As a Data Scientist within the Cyber Threat Analytics and Research (CTAR) team, you will use modern technologies to perform statistical profiling, inference, classification, clustering, and predictive analytics. You will design and build advanced machine learning solutions that generate insights used to defend against cyber threats. The role involves working with diverse datasets, advanced security tools, and cross-functional teams to develop analytics for security and other business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Study cyber event logs with Spark and other large-scale data tools to uncover deeper product and security insights using advanced machine learning techniques.
- Translate cyber threat situations into solvable data problems and build reliable models that can identify previously unseen threats.
- Develop and deploy deep learning systems for user behavior profiling, including data collection, feature engineering, model building, and implementation.
- Perform feature engineering across multiple data sources and help expand the feature store.
- Apply generative AI to automate triage of unusual user activity by gathering the necessary context.
- Build agentic AI tools that improve the speed and efficiency of cyber investigations.
- Collaborate with data scientists and data engineers to design, develop, and maintain analytical software and services that improve security through automation.
- Contribute to the overall direction, lifecycle management, and leadership of information security architecture and related technology at Visa.
- Present clear, persuasive findings to end users, leadership, and other stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
Work Mode and Hours
This is a hybrid role. The exact in-office schedule will be confirmed by the hiring manager. Visa requires at least 3 days per week in the office. Work hours vary based on department needs.
Travel and Work Environment
The role includes 5–10% travel. It is based in an office setting and involves sitting and standing at a desk, communicating in person and by phone, and regularly using standard office equipment such as computers and telephones.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- 3+ years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree, or more than 2 years of experience with an advanced degree such as a Master’s, MBA, JD, or MD.
- Less than 2 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or less than 1 year of relevant experience with a master’s degree, in data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering, or another related quantitative or business field.
- Strong hands-on experience building machine learning, deep learning, and AI models.
- Experience with generative AI, LLMs, and AI agents.
- Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures, with proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience working with large datasets using tools such as Hadoop, Spark, or Hive.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability, along with the drive to solve difficult problems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Highly motivated, resourceful, and results-focused.
- Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to lead and operate effectively in ambiguous situations.
Compensation and Benefits
For U.S. applicants, the estimated annual salary range for this role is USD 123,700 to USD 191,300. The compensation may also include sales incentive payments where applicable, and salary can differ based on factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The position may additionally be eligible for bonus and equity.
