Role Purpose
The Firefighter role is centered on emergency response within the airport premises. The position involves attending aircraft and building fire incidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material situations, and other urgent events while helping protect passengers, crew members, staff, and property through firefighting, rescue, and basic medical support.
Key Responsibilities
- React quickly to aircraft-related incidents, structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material situations, and other emergencies on airport property.
- Carry out firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical assistance to safeguard people and assets.
- Use appropriate firefighting methods and agents such as water, foam, and dry chemicals to suppress flames.
- Perform search-and-rescue activity in smoky, dangerous, or confined environments.
- Deliver first aid and basic life support until trained medical professionals take over.
- Support patient transfer to medical facilities when required.
- Inspect and maintain firefighting vehicles, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment on a daily basis.
- Track inventory levels of firefighting tools and supplies and ensure equipment is ready for deployment.
- Take part in emergency drills, routine simulations, ICAO-required training, and fire exercises.
- Maintain incident documentation, training records, and shift logs for audit and compliance purposes.
- Follow applicable local, state, and central regulations as well as SOPs for all emergency response activities.
- Identify hazards during patrols and inspections and initiate corrective action without delay.
- Prepare and submit accurate reports for incidents, equipment usage, and other operational records.
- Work closely with airport operations, medical support, and external emergency teams during incidents and drills.
- Coordinate with the Duty Manager, ATC, and airport leadership throughout emergency response activities.
Requirements
- A diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Certification from a recognised firefighting academy is mandatory.
- Applicants should have 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience, ideally in aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) operations.
Stakeholders
Internal: Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Team.
External: Local Fire Services Department, Airlines operating at the airport, Ground Handling Companies, ARFF Equipment Manufacturers/Service Providers, Insurance Companies, Local Community Leaders, Civil Aviation Authorities.
Additional Information
This role is based at the airport and requires hands-on participation in emergency operations, inspections, drills, compliance reporting, and coordination with multiple airport and external agencies.
