About the Role
An early-stage AI HealthTech company in Munich is hiring its first dedicated Data Scientist to take full ownership of the machine learning layer from the ground up. The product turns smartphones into screening tools, using face, voice, and eye data to measure 60+ biomarkers in under two minutes, with no hardware and minimal friction for users.
The business is seed-funded, already producing meaningful annual recurring revenue, and is now assembling its permanent internal team after relying on external support during the initial build phase. This position offers the chance to influence both the scientific direction and the product experience at a company with strong backing and a mission focused on preventive healthcare.
For the right candidate, there is a clear progression path toward Head of Data Science as the team expands.
What You Will Do
- Own the machine learning stack end to end, covering research, development, and production deployment.
- Build customer-facing models such as recommendation systems, biomarker estimation models using video, audio, and text, and signal-processing solutions for multimodal inputs.
- Work with a distinctive digital twin dataset that includes voice recordings, face videos, eye images, digital biomarkers, blood biomarkers, and related data.
- Contribute to the development of the next version of Doctor AI, including a reasoning system that drafts safe, evidence-based medical protocols and helps lay the groundwork for a conversational medical assistant.
- Collaborate closely with the founders and the ML Lead to define the technical roadmap for data science.
- Build, ship, and maintain real models that are used by real customers, rather than handing off work after experimentation.
What They Are Looking For
- Strong foundations in statistics and machine learning, with proven experience building and launching models in production.
- Advanced Python skills, along with hands-on experience using PyTorch and working on recommendation systems or signal processing.
- A solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle and comfort taking ownership in ambiguous situations.
- An MSc or PhD in Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in a regulated environment such as healthcare or banking is a strong advantage.
- Research experience and published scientific work are highly valued.
- A builder mindset with a strong motivation to create work that has real-world impact.
Ideal Background
This role may suit candidates from healthtech, digital health, or biomedical AI, as well as those from startup or scaleup environments where speed and quality are both important.
The key requirement is a hands-on builder who is excited by deploying models that can change how people engage with their health.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- The company is tackling preventive healthcare with a product that is already in the market and already generating revenue.
- It is supported by unicorn founders and leading HealthTech investors.
- You will have direct access to the founders and significant autonomy in how you shape the data science function.
- The role comes with meaningful founding-level equity and the opportunity to build ML infrastructure for a product with potential global scale.
Package
- Salary range: €90,000 to €130,000 per year, depending on experience.
- Equity: meaningful founding-level equity is available.
- Location: Munich city centre.
- Work setup: on-site, with an in-office culture.
- Start date: as soon as possible.
Additional Information
This is a permanent full-time position based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The employer is looking for someone who is comfortable working with ownership and ambiguity and who is motivated by the chance to help build a mission-driven AI HealthTech product from an early stage.
