The Role

Scotiabank is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Full Stack Developer (Level 6) to join our dynamic engineering team in Toronto, Ontario. This position is perfect for an individual passionate about technology, eager to learn, and keen to contribute across the entire software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have practical experience with JavaScript and ReactJS, thrive in a collaborative setting, and demonstrate initiative, accountability, and a strong work ethic. You will collaborate closely with developers, designers, product owners, and backend teams to develop scalable and modern banking applications.

• Frontend: ReactJS
• Backend/API Layer: Node.js
• BaaS Layer: Java

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain responsive web applications using ReactJS.
• Build and support backend services and APIs utilizing Node.js.
• Collaborate with teams working on Java-based BaaS integrations.
• Engage in code reviews, testing, debugging, and deployment activities.
• Work closely with product owners, designers, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Contribute to technical discussions and ongoing improvement initiatives.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to engineering best practices.
• Support Agile delivery processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Proactively identify and solve problems, continuously enhancing technical skills.

What You'll Bring

• 1 to 3 years of hands-on software development experience, including internships or co-op work.
• A solid understanding of JavaScript and contemporary web development principles.
• Practical experience with ReactJS.
• Exposure to backend development using Node.js.
• A foundational understanding of REST APIs and client-server architecture.
• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A capacity for rapid learning and adaptation in a fast-paced environment.
• A positive outlook, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to fostering a positive team culture.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience or familiarity with Single-SPA / Micro Frontend architecture.
• Knowledge of Redux.
• Experience with Java.
• Familiarity with Confluence, Figma, Bitbucket, and Jira.
• Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Exposure to CI/CD practices and DevOps concepts.
