Role Overview
This position oversees the hotel’s laundry function, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly and that linen for guest rooms as well as Food & Beverage/Culinary needs is washed, dried, and pressed within required time limits. The role also focuses on maintaining a tidy and safe work area while supporting guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and strong financial results for the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the daily laundry operation and make sure service quality and standards consistently meet customer expectations.
- Supervise staff and manage the full range of day-to-day laundry activities, including being able to step in and perform team duties when needed.
- Communicate safety rules clearly, ensure procedures are understood, and monitor compliance with safety codes and work practices.
- Review budgets, operating statements, and payroll progress reports to support financial control of the department.
- Keep production levels steady by smoothing out busy and slow periods in workflow.
- Escalate operational concerns to the department manager or Human Resources when appropriate.
- Use sound judgment and available information to confirm that work practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Oversee laundry shift operations and ensure all policies, standards, and procedures are followed.
- Arrange supplies, equipment, tools, and uniforms required for the team to work effectively, while keeping purchases within budget.
- Manage cleaning supplies and uniform ordering in line with financial targets.
- Understand how laundry operations affect broader hotel financial goals and take action to meet or exceed budget targets.
- Help manage controllable expenses so the department can achieve or outperform budgeted results.
- Coordinate with Engineering to address maintenance needs for laundry equipment.
- Take part in department meetings and communicate goals clearly and consistently to support strong results.
- Operate department machinery as needed, report equipment issues, and maintain backup plans for breakdowns.
- Assess and introduce improved techniques, supplies, and equipment where beneficial.
- Maintain employee productivity and lead the team with integrity, strong communication, and good business judgment.
- Build trust, respect, and cooperation across the team and maintain open, collaborative working relationships.
- Deliver service that exceeds expectations and supports guest satisfaction and retention.
- Coach employees to better understand guest needs and improve service delivery through guidance and feedback.
- Set a strong example in guest relations and empower staff to provide excellent service.
- Support employee recognition across shifts and help create a positive workplace culture.
- Identify development needs, mentor team members, and support learning and skill improvement.
- Participate in hiring, interviewing, selection, promotion, and staffing decisions.
- Ensure staffing levels match operational demand and financial objectives.
- Schedule employees efficiently and track attendance and time records.
- Encourage feedback, use an open-door approach, and address employee concerns thoughtfully.
- Handle progressive discipline, performance reviews, and fair application of hotel policies and procedures.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and Local Operating Procedures, including proper documentation and peer review support.
Candidate Profile
The role requires a high school diploma or GED along with at least 2 years of experience in laundry, housekeeping, or a closely related professional setting.
Work Environment and Schedule
This is a full-time position based in Lusail, Qatar. The role is onsite and part of the Housekeeping & Laundry category, within a management-level position.
