About the role

This position is for an Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) leader supporting an MNC data center business in Navi Mumbai. The role focuses on strengthening site safety, construction compliance, and operational risk control across data center projects and fit-out activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive the rollout and adherence of EHS policies, standards, procedures, and project-specific safety plans across assigned projects and the region.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance for project activities, with strong working knowledge of BOCW and related statutory requirements.
  • Create and conduct EHS learning material and training sessions for employees, subcontractors, and management.
  • Build and execute EHS programs aligned with company standards for both data center operations and construction work.
  • Plan and deliver training and coaching for trade-specific and high-risk activities as per the schedule.
  • Bring hands-on experience in managing fit-out activities for greenfield projects.
  • Lead proactive incident and accident prevention initiatives to build a stronger safety culture.
  • Track EHS performance data, analyze trends in near misses and potential incidents, and identify improvement areas.
  • Provide EHS guidance and oversight for operations and construction work, while supporting project managers in continuous risk management.
  • Run weekly and monthly EHS meetings with project teams and monitor closure of action items.
  • Support incident investigations by collecting facts, identifying root causes, and recommending preventive and corrective actions.
  • Review site EHS plans, permit-to-work systems for high-risk work, method statements, and safe operating procedures for construction and fit-out tasks.
  • Carry out site inspections and audits to verify compliance and safe work practices at project locations.
  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessments for typical construction activities and ensure control measures are implemented.
  • Review contractor risk management plans and construction methods, identify gaps, and challenge weak or impractical controls.
  • Develop and implement safety programs and policies for safe execution, including house rules, recognition programs, reward systems, and labor camp-related measures.
  • Build the capability of the regional EHS team and clearly define roles and responsibilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the EHS officers team to improve safe behavior and reduce non-compliance.

Candidate profile

  • At least 12 years of experience handling EHS for large infrastructure construction projects.
  • A B.E./B.Tech in Civil is mandatory; other degrees such as BSc are not accepted for this role.
  • Advance Diploma in Safety/EHS with NEBOSH qualification is mandatory; IOSH, NICMAR, or an equivalent credential is also relevant.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Management is desirable.
  • Experience supervising a team of 3 to 5 EHS officers or engineers is preferred.
  • Practical exposure to high-risk construction work such as excavation, heavy lifting, trenching, hot work, working at heights, and confined space entry is required.
  • Background in fit-out work at large sites, including coordination with multiple partners and vendors from different backgrounds, is important.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and OHSA is expected.
  • Strong understanding of BOCW compliance and other statutory safety requirements is needed.
  • Prior experience applying EHS standards in engineering or construction environments is important.
  • Must be comfortable handling client-facing situations and coordinating with contractors and suppliers, including senior stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, self-motivation, prioritization ability, and a collaborative yet assertive approach are essential.
