Role overview

This role is based in Singapore within the microbiology laboratory of a biotechnology facility. The position reports to the Manager and is part of a regional hub serving Asia Pacific. The company is a long-established biopharmaceutical employer in Singapore and across Asia Pacific.

What you will handle

  • Carry out both routine and non-routine monitoring, sampling, and testing of utility systems such as purified water, water for injection, pure steam, compressed air, and nitrogen.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring across plants, facilities, clean rooms, hygienic zones, and laboratories, including particle count checks.
  • Support personnel qualification and re-qualification activities, and lead clean room qualification and re-qualification when required.
  • Provide microbiology support for plant validation work.
  • Test in-process and release samples for excipients, packaging materials, semi-finished drug products, and drug substances, including sterility, bacterial endotoxin, bioburden, and microbial limits testing as applicable.
  • Perform routine and batch-related environmental monitoring in clean rooms, other production areas, and the laboratory.
  • Handle receipt of media, carry out sterility verification and growth promotion testing for media used in analysis.
  • Complete initial and ongoing quality control checks on ready-to-use cultures and maintain cell cultures.
  • Identify microorganisms such as bacteria, mould, and yeast in water, environmental, and product samples.
  • Review closed validation document packages and standard operating procedures on a periodic basis.
  • Support documentation work by drafting and updating SOPs, protocols, test reports, and other documents assigned by senior or manager-level microbiology staff.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for calibration and maintenance of instruments.
  • Request quotations for laboratory consumables and help ensure uninterrupted supply of needed items.
  • Take part in SHE, business compliance, cGMP, and related compliance activities.
  • Oversee third-party contractors when required.
  • Work with other departments to identify training needs and provide technical support.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service engineers for validation, calibration, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Coordinate with suppliers of microbiological media and other equipment.
  • Work with Quality, Plant Operations, Projects, and Engineering & Maintenance teams as needed.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • A degree in Microbiology, Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and cGMP requirements.
  • Comfort with computer-based work and systems.
  • Good spoken and written communication skills.
