Role Overview

The Product Manager will work as a hands-on builder within a squad that supports Roo’s labor marketplace. This role goes beyond writing requirements and passing them along; it involves using AI tools to speed up research, create prototypes, and increasingly deliver work directly. The person in this position will help shape product direction and execution, partnering with engineering, design, analytics, and operations to create meaningful outcomes for users and the business.

The role is tied closely to the company’s business model, so the work will have direct impact. It calls for someone who enjoys building, takes ownership, and is motivated by solving practical problems for real users in a team-oriented environment. Reporting is to the Director of Product Management. The position is remote, but occasional on-site presence in San Francisco for meetings and team events may be needed. If the candidate is based in San Francisco, the role is hybrid.

Key Responsibilities

• Move product ideas from concept to release using AI-assisted prototyping and Roo’s internal coding agent, Roomote, to shorten the path from idea to production.
• Support roadmap planning and prioritization with guidance, focusing on the work most likely to move the squad’s core metric.
• Work closely with engineering, design, operations, and marketing to define, build, and launch solutions, deciding when broader collaboration is needed and when independent execution is enough.
• Create concise, decision-oriented PRDs that reflect a deep understanding of the problem, the tradeoffs, and the best solution for both users and the business.
• Use data analysis to validate decisions, track progress, and know when additional support is needed for deeper investigation.
• Take an experimentation-first approach by designing and iterating on quick tests for new ideas and hypotheses.
• Conduct research with support from AI tools by synthesizing market trends, competitor information, and user input into actionable insights.
• Keep the product process efficient through strong communication and organized documentation.

Qualifications

• 2 to 3 years of product management experience, or similar experience in which you owned product decisions and helped build product features, including from an engineering background.
• Strong empathy for users and a customer-focused mindset.
• Ability to communicate clearly across teams and levels, including explaining what is being built and why.
• Proven use of AI tools in day-to-day work for research, writing, analysis, prototyping, or shipping; this is required.
• Comfort working with quantitative and qualitative data, including hands-on use of dashboards and self-directed analysis.
• Ability to learn in uncertain situations, act quickly, and follow through reliably.
• Collaborative, low-ego style with the ability to build trust and influence without formal authority.
• Interest in user experience and the ability to explain product improvements through writing, visuals, or conversation.
• Bonus experience in labor marketplaces, healthcare technology, or early-stage startups.
• Bonus experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Replit, or v0 to build prototypes or ship features.

Compensation

Roo uses location-based pay tiers. Exact compensation depends on skills, experience, and location.

• Tier 1: San Francisco, New York City — USD 128,000 to 165,000 per year
• Tier 2: Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, Washington DC, San Diego, Chicago — USD 115,000 to 150,000 per year
• Tier 3: Austin, Dallas, Portland, Denver, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Sacramento — USD 110,000 to 140,000 per year
• Tier 4: Minneapolis, Miami, Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City — USD 100,000 to 130,000 per year
