About the Organization

Young Concert Artists is a Manhattan-based nonprofit dedicated to classical music and the development of emerging artists. For more than 65 years, the organization has supported exceptional young musicians with opportunities, guidance, and the tools they need to build meaningful careers. Its work spans public concerts, annual auditions, two galas, fundraising, artist management, and a broad network of engagements and education/community programs.

The team is small, collaborative, and mission-driven, working with artists, board members, donors, alumni, and venues in New York City and Washington, DC. This role is a chance to contribute to an arts organization that values teamwork, attention to detail, and service to both audiences and artists.

Role Overview

The Programs & Marketing Assistant supports both the Programs and Marketing & Communications teams in delivering a concert season and strengthening audience engagement. The position combines ticketing and box office support with digital marketing tasks, including email campaigns, social media coordination, and content management.

Programs and Box Office Responsibilities

  • Handle subscription and single-ticket sales by phone and through the organization’s website, coordinating with the presenting venues as needed.
  • Staff the box office on site for selected presentations by distributing tickets, assisting patrons, supporting guests with accessibility needs, and resolving ticketing issues with venue staff.
  • Oversee the ticketing database in Arts People, including reporting, financial reconciliation, season setup, and customer record maintenance.
  • Manage the community ticket program by building and maintaining relationships with partner organizations such as senior centers, schools, and other community groups that distribute complimentary tickets.
  • Coordinate with the development team to ensure attendance and ticketing for board members and VIP guests at concerts.

Marketing Responsibilities

  • Create and send email campaigns through a web-based eblast system and maintain audience lists.
  • Partner with the in-house designer to create social content and tailor it for each platform.
  • Collect, schedule, and publish social media content using scheduling tools across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Review and update performance metrics to measure email and social engagement.
  • Maintain the digital library of performance photos and videos, including editing photos and trimming/storing video clips.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a related role.
  • Genuine interest in classical music; familiarity with the field is encouraged.
  • Experience managing social media content across multiple channels in a consistent brand voice.
  • Experience using email marketing tools such as Neon One or Mailchimp.
  • Comfort using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Customer service background.
  • Strong computer skills, including Google Suite, Mac and PC systems, Slack, Asana, and related workplace tools.
  • Experience with online ticketing systems such as Shopify or Arts People, or prior box office experience for live events.
  • Basic photo and video editing ability is a plus.
  • Excellent organization, accuracy, productivity, and results-oriented work style.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interaction with board members and VIP guests.
  • A music degree is an advantage; a background in music is preferred, and enthusiasm for music is required.

This employer is an equal opportunity employer and considers all candidates without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age.

Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage, generous holiday and paid time off, and an employer-funded retirement plan.

The organization’s offices are at 57th and Broadway in New York City. The schedule follows a hybrid arrangement of three days in the office and two days working remotely, and the selected candidate must be available to work in the Manhattan office three days per week.
