As part of a period of growth, SGS is looking for an experienced QC Analyst to join its Scientific In-sourcing team in Cork. The role focuses on pharmaceutical testing in a GMP setting, with particular emphasis on GC and HPLC work, alongside other analytical methods as needed.
Core Duties
- Carry out testing of pharmaceutical materials such as raw materials and drug substances in line with GMP expectations and client quality procedures.
- Build competency through training provided by SGS and the client in relevant analytical methods.
- Where qualified, support the development of other analysts through training.
- Perform tests according to approved procedures and applicable regulatory standards.
- Keep laboratory instruments properly maintained and ensure calibrations are completed at the required intervals.
- Track and control the inventory and status of materials needed for analysis.
- When authorised, check and approve results produced by other analysts for compliance with requirements.
- Record information accurately in LIMS.
- Evaluate laboratory test outcomes and complete batch analysis closure activities.
- Meet target deadlines, update status tracking tools, and share progress in meetings.
- Keep laboratory areas clean, organised, and audit-ready at all times.
- Maintain complete, accurate laboratory documentation and ensure work is completed right first time and on schedule.
- Prepare and update necessary records and documents such as SOPs, methods, and reports.
- Work collaboratively to meet and exceed customer expectations while supporting client and SGS KPIs, including investigations, training, productivity, and on-time testing.
- Report and document atypical or aberrant results, and ensure they are followed up appropriately.
- Take the lead on laboratory investigations and deviations when needed.
- Support a safe, compliant working environment that remains inspection-ready.
- Help identify and implement improvements in safety, environmental performance, quality, and service.
- Work with the line manager to support ongoing development and career progression.
- Follow safe working practices and act with care for your own safety, as well as that of colleagues and clients, in line with company policies.
- Comply fully with the Code of Integrity and with SGS Ireland’s Equality & Diversity policy.
Required Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will hold a science degree in Chemistry, or an equivalent qualification at Level 7 or above, and have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience in a GMP laboratory.
Strong knowledge of data integrity and analytical technologies is important, including experience with HPLC, GC, KF, IR, PSD, X-ray, and wet chemistry.
The role also calls for someone who works well in a team, adapts easily to changing priorities, and brings a strong customer service mindset.
High standards in quality and safety are essential, along with confidence using laboratory computer systems such as LIMS and Trackwise.
