Purpose of the role

This role exists to safeguard food safety and product quality across the production site. The Quality Controller helps protect the Avoca brand by reinforcing strong food safety practices, ensuring compliance, and supporting continuous improvement within the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

Key duties

  • Make sure food safety, legal, and internal requirements are fully met, including the correct use and upkeep of the HACCP system.
  • Regularly check the production floor to confirm products are being made safely, efficiently, and in line with approved SOPs and quality standards.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day operation and ongoing improvement of the site’s Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Report any system failures, gaps, or risks to senior management promptly and in a clear, organised way.
  • Keep HACCP records accurate, current, and ready for inspection or audit.
  • Investigate customer complaints, identify the underlying cause, and work with other teams to put corrective actions in place.
  • Carry out internal audits, product checks, and verification work to maintain compliance and standards.
  • Review and report on quality performance, including weekly and monthly metrics, and highlight trends or improvement opportunities.
  • Help manage non-conforming products and process issues through to resolution.
  • Work in close partnership with the Food Safety & Quality Manager to identify and address potential risks early.
  • Deliver internal training and ensure relevant teams understand and sign off on required standards and processes.
  • Carry out all duties in line with Avoca’s Code of Conduct and company values.
