Software Engineer I

Role Overview

Uber Technologies, Inc. is hiring a Software Engineer based in Seattle, Washington. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $150,000 to $166,000 per year.

Compensation and Benefits

In addition to base pay, the role is eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may include other forms of compensation. The position also comes with access to a range of employee benefits.

What You’ll Do

The role involves building, testing, and improving software systems across Uber’s technology stack. You will contribute to product reliability, engineering productivity, and system performance while partnering with multiple teams to support business goals.

• Design, build, and test software applications and components using Uber’s engineering stack.
• Use technical judgment to assess complex data, project details, and engineering challenges, and recommend practical fixes.
• Help strengthen business operations and improve how engineering teams work.
• Create software modules that can be combined into complete, functional systems.
• Investigate and resolve production problems affecting reliability and product quality.
• Write maintainable, efficient, testable code, review code from others, and produce strong tests and documentation.
• Track product health in production, identify defects or inefficiencies, and troubleshoot issues quickly.
• Work with cross-functional partners to define problems, shape requirements, and design solutions.
• Develop scalable and resilient system designs to close infrastructure gaps.
• Partner with other teams in Uber Infrastructure to deliver design, implementation, and rollout work safely and sustainably.
• Take part in on-call rotations and use sound troubleshooting practices during production incidents.
• This role may be performed remotely from home.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Python, Java, or Go.
• Working knowledge of SQL or MySQL.
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to design technology stacks.
• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
