About the role
Elders is seeking a Stock Agent to serve as the main advisor and day-to-day contact for livestock customers in the Rockhampton region. In this position, you will work alongside local producers and branch colleagues to help improve on-farm outcomes through advice on livestock marketing, general merchandise, nutrition and supplement products, and animal health solutions.
The role involves supporting sale preparation work such as weighing cattle, processing livestock, vaccinating and drenching animals on farm. You will also look for opportunities to introduce clients to Elders’ wider range of offerings. This is a highly relationship-focused position, with an emphasis on strengthening client partnerships and generating new business across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Build and sustain trusted, service-focused relationships with livestock clients
- Carry out on-farm livestock inspections and organise sale listings
- Support livestock sales through auctions, paddock sales, feedlot programs, and online channels
- Share clear market updates and pricing guidance with clients
- Spot opportunities to cross-sell agency, finance, insurance, and retail products
- Stay current on livestock market movements, seasonal conditions, and industry trends
About you
To be successful in this role, you should bring practical livestock-handling experience, such as station or feedlot work, or experience in sales processing. Strong communication, negotiation, and customer service skills are important, along with the judgement to assess livestock quality and value accurately.
You will need a current driver’s licence and a selling licence, or be willing to obtain one. A genuine interest in agriculture and rural communities is essential. You must also be able to provide proof of Q-Fever vaccination or immunity, or be prepared to obtain it.
