Student Advisor

About the role

The University of Waikato is looking for a proactive and well-organised Student Advisor to join Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao, the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies. In this position, you will support students from their first interaction with the faculty through to graduation. Your work will include giving accurate, tailored guidance on study planning, enrolment, and completion, while contributing to stronger retention, achievement, and participation in undergraduate study. You will be part of a team-oriented environment focused on delivering excellent student support and adding value at every stage of the learner journey.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, based at the Hillcrest Campus. The salary range is $73,235 to $87,024 per year, depending on the experience, knowledge, and skills you bring to the role.

Key responsibilities

• Support students through every stage from enrolment to graduation.
• Provide clear, accurate advice on programme choices, course planning, enrolment, and completion.
• Help improve student retention, achievement, and participation in undergraduate study.
• Work closely with a collaborative faculty team to deliver high-quality student support.
• Contribute to a positive, student-centred service environment.

• A relevant tertiary qualification.
• Strong capability in Excel, Word, and written and verbal communication.
• A proactive, approachable, and highly organised working style.
• Experience working effectively in a busy, team-based environment.
• A genuine interest in education and student success.
• Initiative, flexibility, and a practical can-do attitude.
• Understanding of te reo me ōnā tikanga, along with an interest in Indigenous languages and cultures.
