About Austin Sunshine Camps

Austin Sunshine Camps (ASC) exists to bring the experience and wonder of overnight camp to children without cost being a barrier. Since 1928, the organization has offered free summer camp experiences for young people by working with families who may otherwise not have access to these opportunities. ASC’s programs run during summer, spring break, and winter break, and are accredited by the American Camp Association, reflecting a very high standard in the camp industry.

Each year, ASC serves 760 campers ages 8 to 15. Children ages 8 to 11 attend Zilker Camp in Zilker Park, while campers ages 12 to 15 go to Lake Travis Camp in Marble Falls. At camp, they swim, canoe, hike, build new abilities, make crafts, create music, and take part in many other activities. During the school year, ASC stays connected with camper families through seasonal events and programs that strengthen those relationships and keep families engaged with the camp experience.

About the Role

When Zilker Lodge is not in use for summer camp, it is rented out to the public for private events and serves as an earned-revenue source that supports the organization’s mission. The Venue Assistant works directly on-site during events, helping renters with facility-related questions, assisting vendors with their needs, and guiding guests as they arrive and move around Zilker Park. This role is very hands-on and execution-focused, with a strong emphasis on delivering excellent customer service.

Rental activity usually runs from late August through early May, with September, October, November, March, and April being the busiest periods.
