Assistant Baseball Coach

Role overview

University of Wisconsin-Platteville is hiring a full-time Assistant Baseball Coach to support the Division of Athletics and Recreation in Platteville, Wisconsin. The role works alongside the head coach to help manage, organize, and coach the university baseball program while also handling other department-related duties.

The annual salary for this position is $31,500, and the role is eligible for benefits and paid leave.

The Athletics and Recreation department is focused on helping student-athletes excel on the field, in the classroom, and within the wider community by fostering a culture built on trust, empowerment, and care.

Responsibilities

• Help create a supportive learning environment that promotes athletic growth, personal development, and preparation for life after college.
• Take part in the day-to-day administration of the baseball program, including practice support, game-day duties, and alumni engagement.
• Support the head coach in building and carrying out a full recruiting plan by identifying prospects, assessing talent, coordinating on-campus and off-campus recruiting efforts, arranging campus visits, and guiding recruits through the admissions process.
• Share responsibility for team development, player safety, and player conduct.
• Stay current on NCAA, WIAC, and University of Wisconsin-Platteville rules, and ensure the program operates in full compliance.
• Assist with the upkeep of baseball and softball fields.
• Contribute to public-facing efforts such as promotion, fundraising, and community outreach through camps and clinics.
• May oversee student employees, help manage a budget, and assist with travel, schedules, and other duties assigned by the head coach.
• Depending on department needs and the selected candidate’s background, secondary duties may include event management, sports information, story writing, compliance, fundraising, academic support liaison work, admissions liaison work, student-athlete leadership and life-skills development, equipment, or ticket operations.
• Compete at a high level within the WIAC and nationally.
• Meet annual recruiting targets set by the Athletic Director, if requested.
• Maintain team GPA and graduation rates at or above the university-wide average.
• Work with alumni and coordinate with the UW-Platteville Foundation Office on alumni fundraising events.
• Support community service initiatives for the department and team.
• Assist with other departmental needs as assigned.
• When practical, staff are encouraged to attend athletic events to help build audience engagement and support for UW-Platteville teams.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Strong organizational skills and effective written and verbal communication.
• Working knowledge of computer tools used for recruiting systems and video analysis.
• Willingness to travel and work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard hours.

Preferred background

• College-level playing and/or coaching experience in baseball.
