Role overview
Community Education Group (CEG) is hiring a detail-focused Communications Coordinator to help create, adapt, and distribute communications and educational resources across its capacity building assistance (CBA) work under a CDC-funded Component D award. Reporting to the Communications Manager and working closely with the Program Manager, this role ensures technical assistance (TA) products and educational materials are tailored for different jurisdictions and service settings.
The position is fully dedicated to CDC-funded Component D activities and plays a key role in adapting resources such as the rural PrEP Education Toolkit so they are accurate, locally appropriate, and practical for frontline staff.
Organization expectations
All team members are expected to contribute to CEG’s mission, values, and collaborative culture. This includes maintaining professionalism, showing respect and maturity in all interactions, working effectively with diverse communities through a culturally humble approach, communicating proactively with supervisors and cross-functional partners, attending required meetings and professional development activities, and following organizational policies while protecting confidentiality.
Key duties
This role combines content adaptation, communications support, accessibility formatting, and project coordination across multiple CBA activities.
- Adapt TA products and educational materials, including the rural PrEP Education Toolkit, for use across CEG’s priority geographies and service environments.
- Customize nationally developed content so it reflects local care pathways, Medicaid systems, available resources, and community demographics.
- Make sure revised materials are factually correct, locally relevant, and ready for frontline use by CBO and health department partners.
- Work with program staff and the Senior CBA Lead to align adapted materials with current TA needs and partner priorities.
- Draft and produce reports, summaries, findings, and promotional content from Communities of Practice sessions, the CBO Summit, and TA product development work.
- Create social media content and partner communications that promote CBA services, TA products, and engagement opportunities.
- Update and maintain LMS content so training and resource materials remain current, accurate, and accessible.
- Support distribution of approved TA products to priority audiences through coordinated outreach and communications channels.
- Format TA products according to Section 508 accessibility standards for CDC clearance submissions.
- Help prepare materials for CDC clearance and ensure submissions meet HHS accessibility and CDC communications requirements.
- Track clearance progress, revisions, and documentation for assigned materials.
- Coordinate with the Communications Manager, Program Manager, Senior CBA Lead, and CBA Specialist to keep communications work aligned with broader project goals and workplans.
- Provide accurate communications data for grant reporting and internal or CDC reporting needs.
- Monitor and document the creation, adaptation, and release of TA products and partner-facing materials.

Qualifications
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field, though comparable experience may be accepted in place of a degree. At least 3 years of experience in public health communications, health education material development, or a related communications function is required. Candidates should have experience adapting health communication materials for specific audiences, jurisdictions, or service contexts.
Strong familiarity with HIV prevention, harm reduction, substance use disorder, and the public health realities of rural and Appalachian communities is expected. The role also requires working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards and the ability to format documents for accessibility. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills are essential, along with the ability to translate technical public health content for broad audiences. Experience using social media, LMS platforms, and other digital communications tools is also important.
Excellent organizational skills are needed to manage multiple materials-development projects at once in a fast-moving remote environment.
Preferred experience
Prior work in CDC-funded programs or with CDC communications requirements is preferred, along with familiarity with CDC clearance workflows such as Project Initiation Forms (PIFs). Experience creating health communication materials for community-based audiences, frontline staff, or rural and underserved communities is also helpful. Familiarity with the PrEP Education Toolkit or similar HIV prevention resources is an advantage, as is lived experience or direct service experience in communities affected by HIV, substance use, or related health inequities.
Travel
Up to 15% travel is required for this position.
