Data Engineer - Data Conversions Jr-Mid

About the Role

Enroute is hiring a Data Engineer focused on data conversions to support a major engineering initiative. This role sits on the conversions team and is centered on moving insurance policy information from legacy administration systems into a modern policy administration platform. The work is highly analytical and requires a strong engineering mindset for tracing, comparing, and validating data across databases and files, then designing the mappings and transformation rules needed to load the target system accurately.

You will also receive direct mentorship from an experienced conversion manager and gain exposure to the end-to-end migration lifecycle, from discovery through production cutover.

What You Will Do

• Investigate and reconcile data across multiple layers, including databases and files, to understand how legacy information maps to the target platform.
• Write and reason through complex SQL queries to analyze, trace, and transform data.
• Design source-to-target mappings and build transformation logic for conversion activities.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and correct data quality issues so loads can be validated successfully.
• Support the full migration process, from early discovery and analysis through final production cutover.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and teammates through iterative delivery cycles, maintaining clear communication throughout.
• Use AI-powered coding and analysis tools as part of everyday development and investigation work.

Technical Requirements

• Strong practical command of SQL as a core working language.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server features such as queries, views, stored procedures, CTEs, and window functions.
• Working knowledge of ETL processes.
• Ability to build mapping documents and transformation logic from source systems to target structures.
• Experience with data cleansing and validation techniques.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud data services such as RDS, S3, and Secrets Manager.
• Comfort using Excel for data analysis and review of legacy records.
• Experience with GitHub or another version control system.
• Exposure to project tracking tools such as Jira.
• Understanding of Agile delivery approaches such as Kanban or Scrum.
• Ability to handle sensitive financial information and personally identifiable information securely.
• Experience working with AI assistants such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools for coding, prompt design, and automated analysis.

• Previous experience on data migration or conversion projects.
