Role overview

This is a residential position based in the Otago region of New Zealand. It is designed for someone who wants to live locally rather than work a FIFO roster, with the option to drive in and out from Dunedin, Oamaru, or other nearby towns. The area offers beaches, outdoor activities, skiing, hiking, water sports, fishing, and easy access to Queenstown on days off. The Macraes Underground Operations team is seeking an experienced Jumbo Operator to join underground mine operations.

Key duties

• Run Jumbo development drills safely and efficiently to advance headings and install ground support according to mine standards.
• Keep headings mined to the required size, alignment, and grade.
• Make sure ground support is installed to the minimum standard or better.
• Carry out all work safely and stop the job when conditions are unsafe.
• Mark up faces accurately against mine plans and memos, then work in line with those instructions.
• As a senior team member, help create a positive team environment, set a strong example, and support trainee operators.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will bring at least 10 years of underground mining experience, with 5 years on a Jumbo preferred. You should be capable of installing bolts and mesh, boring headings including declines, and have proven experience on Sandvik Jumbo drills. Experience with spiling and SDAs is an advantage. Background as a Loader Operator and in Development Charge Up is also valuable. A current full driver licence and current First Aid Certificate are required.

The roster is 7 days on / 7 days off, covering day and night shifts, with 12-hour shifts.
